Last week, author and developer Jorge Perez and gallerist Gary Nader announced their newest collaboration, which is sure to dramatically enrich Miami’s art scene. The Allen Morris Company partnered with The Related Group, founded by Mr. Perez, to move Fernando Botero’s monumental bronze masterpiece, “Male Torso” to the SLS Lux Hotel and Residences.

The 10-foot tall piece was forged in 1992 and is perhaps Botero’s largest and most widely exhibited bronze, having been shown on the Avenue des ChampsElysées in Paris, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and in Chicago, London, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, and other major cities worldwide.

The partnership investment to incorporate Botero’s influential sculpture proves the commitment of The Related Group to their newest project. The 10-foot tall piece, which was sculpted in 1992, will give a unique and luxurious touch to the every aspect of the SLS Lux building- both outdoors and indoors.

Perez and Nader have stated that they plan to continue to spend multimillions in original, signature works that will create a collection of artistic distinction in the SLS Lux Hotel.  Perez believes that Botero’s Male Torso will have Miami as it’s home for a long time.

The bronze sculpture, one of Botero’s largest and most exhibited pieces, is one of the many signature works Perez plans to invest in to enhance Brickell’s public art, especially in such a prominent tower of luxury like the SLS Residences.

“We are thrilled to incorporate one of Botero’s seminal sculptures into our project,” said Perez, Chairman of The Related Group. “Working on such a monumental scale, often associated only with commemorative sculptures, he interprets the classic subject of the male figure in his signature, opulent style.” The sculpture joins a 20,000-square-foot mural by Argentinian artist Fabian Burgos and an illuminated piece by Ana Martinez that is purported to “enhance” the building’s 60-story facade.
