Self-described “original marketplace” Eataly may soon be opening its doors at the Los Angeles Beverly Center. According to new reports, the popular retail center for Italian delicacies and wine is in “serious discussions” and “closely considering” opening up a new location in the Beverly Center.
LA Eater reports that approximately a year ago Mario Batali and Joe Bastianinch were considering their options to open a new location of Eataly somewhere in the Beverly Hills/West Hollywood area. Then, last summer, additional reports indicated the team “may have found a space around Melrose and San Vicente.” After nothing materialized from those reports, LA Eater is now citing “two separate restaurant sources that Eataly is closely considering the Beverly Center” for a new store.
Jay Luchs, a real estate source who is reportedly “doing the deal” for Eataly, told LA Eater, “There is some truth to it in that there are serious discussions, but there are also other properties who have been aggressively going after Eataly so nothing is 100%. Eataly is looking to do an LA location, but taking its time to make sure they do it right.”
Eataly’s concept includes a marketplace-type setting that invites consumers to be “active participants in an innovative food and beverage experience where they shop, taste and savor high quality traditional Italian food products and beverages along with local produce and artisanal products,” according to their website. The brand is essentially a “multifunctional marketplace” offering various food-related departments, such as a retail center for Italian delicacies and wine, a culinary educational center, and a diverse slate of seven boutique eateries.
There are currently seven restaurants inside Eataly in New York City, six of which are located on the street level marketplace, and the seventh is located on the location’s rooftop.
