The Top 5 Places to Get Ice Cream in Las Vegas

You would think that as hot as it gets in Las Vegas that there would be an ice cream parlor on every corner of this city. Instead, we found custards and gelatos intermixed with the summertime favorite treat. You’ll find places that specialize in ice cream along with a couple where the ice cream is just so good that we had to include them on our Haute 5 ice cream shops in Las Vegas.

Serendipity 3
One thing you can always expect to find in Las Vegas is something over-the-top. And Serendipity 3 delivers. This New York landmark sitting on Las Vegas Boulevard at Caesars Palace carries favorites such as the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate with its 20 varieties of chocolate in an icy treat and the Forbidden Broadway Sundae with blackout cake, ice cream, hot fudge and whipped cream all set in a whimsical cafe.

But for a truly decadent treat, try the Golden Opulence Sundae. The Guinness World Records certified it the most expensive dessert. The $1,000 sundae features five scoops of Tahitian vanilla ice cream, rare chocolates made from Venezuelan cocoa beans, exotic fruits and 23-karat edible gold leaf.

Trevi
When in Rome, do as the Romans and head to Trevi at the Forum Shops at Caesars for one of the 12 flavors of gelato that pastry chef Hank Sbraccia makes at 2 a.m. each morning. The Italian eatery sitting outside the Fountain of the Gods goes through 250 to 350 pounds of gelato, a denser and richer version of ice cream with less air, every day. Sbraccia has made more than 350 flavors of gelati throughout the years, including experimental flavors such as prickly pear cactus and tomato basil. Kids will love the spaghetti ice with strands of white gelato as the spaghetti, strawberry sauce as marinara and shaved white chocolate for parmesan cheese.

Luv-It Frozen Custard
This one has stood the test of time in a city that likes to implode its landmarks. Since 1973, Luv-It Frozen Custard serves up its version of ice cream from walk-up window in the shadow of the Stratosphere. Look for chocolate and vanilla every day, along with two specialty flavors that change. Luv-It specializes in sundaes, but also makes shakes, malts and cones. Just expect a line in front of the 50-foot building.

BLT Burger
When it comes to milkshakes, head over to BLT Burger at the Mirage for dreamy concoctions. Look for the Mocha Mudslide with coffee ice cream, Oreo cookies and chocolate syrup or the the Lunch Box with vanilla ice cream, peanut butter and grape jelly. If you’re feeling a bit more adult, try the spiked milkshakes. Grandma’s Treat has Maker’s Mark, caramel and vanilla ice cream while the All Nighter features Kahlua, Bailey’s, espresso and coffee ice cream. This burger joint stay open until 2 a.m. on weeknights and 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Consider it your late-night source for ice cream treats.

RM Seafood
No, Rick Moonen’s RM Seafood at Mandalay Bay didn’t suddenly turn into an ice cream shop. The seafood eatery with a keen eye toward sustainable foods and a chef who appeared on Top Chef Masters has Rick’s Ice Cream Name Game, a delectable game that incorporates taste and smell. Moonen serves up a four-by-four matrix of ice creams, sorbets, sherbets and ice milks. Your job is to figure out each flavor. Look for fresh ingredients such as seasonal fruits, nuts, exotic spices and for a real challenge, watch for savory flavors like black pepper, mango and rosemary, maple and single malt or balsamic. If you guess all 16 flavors correctly, dessert is on the house.
