The Boca Raton Concours d’ Elegance starts its engine this Friday night and drives through Feb. 27, providing car and racing lovers a reason to stay north this weekend. The Mercedes-Benz sponsored event benefits the Boys and Girls Club of Broward County and offers all the ingredients for a perfect weekend: food, philanthropy, parties, auctions, galas, automobiles and more during its three day span.
This year, the Boca Raton Concours d’ Elegance shares the spotlight with the Indianapolis 500 who is celebrating its 100-year anniversary. Legends of the Indy will be on hand and the cars they raced to victory will be on display providing a unique opportunity for South Florida racing fans to see them up close.
The starting line is Friday night’s duPont Registry Live! hangar party at the Boca Raton airport where guest are invited to browse exotic and classic cars, planes, motorcycles and jets while feasting on tastings from 20 of South Florida’s best restaurants.
Saturday stars one of Haute Living’s Haute 100, H. Wayne Huizenga, who accompanied by Marti Huizenga, will be hosting Saturday evening’s gala. The black tie optional party will include cocktails, dinner, and an auction, giving gala attendees the chance to bid on several first-in-the-country 2012 luxury vehicles. Mr. Huizenga will serve double duty as he will be honored as the recipient of this year’s Automotive Lifetime Achievement Award.
The night gets brighter because no matter whose team you were on, the true highlight of Saturday’s gala promises to be a live comedic performance by Jay Leno. Leno performed at the inaugural Boca Raton Concours d’ Elegance five years ago and is a well known car aficionado and collector opening his own museum in Southern California called Jay Leno’s Big Dog Garage.
Sunday rounds out the festivities with the judging of the automobile and motorcycle event on the golf course of the Boca Raton Resort and Club. Jay Leno will once again be on hand as one of the expert judges on the panel who will be eyeing each vehicle carefully before presenting the winners that afternoon and drawing the event to a close.
