American rapper, The Game, has been ordered by an Australian Federal court to pay over $500,000 in damages due to a fake Australian tour in 2017.
The California rapper, named Jayceon Terrell Taylor, along with his agent, Cash Jones, promoted an Australian tour that spanned across seven cities. Among those were Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
Justice Sarah Derrington ruled that the 41-year-old rapper and his agent are liable for the cancellation of the tour and have been ordered to pay $478,119.73 in damages along with $78,508.08 in interest, plus court costs of Australian promoters, Tour Squad.
At the time, The Game was also set to perform additional shows as well as make after-party appearances in Canberra and Cairns. However, The game and his entourage backed out of the deal once Tour Squad refused to pay upwards of $3 million for a documentary the California-rapper planned on filming while in Australia.
Tour Squad claims negotiations went south when The game began increasing his performance fees drastically as well as demanding to be allowed to bring along a 15-person entourage.
Justice Derrington revealed that while the American rapper and his agent were in the wrong, the behavior displayed by both parties was inappropriate. Both the complainants, Tour Squad and The Game’s representatives allegedly made attempts to influence the court.
This is now the second time The Game has had problems in Australia. In 2016, the rapper was denied entrance to the country due to an improper visa, which led to the cancellation of the tour in that occasion as well.
