Volatile Vagina Candles! Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Sued Over Exploding Candle

Gwyneth PaltrowPhoto Credit: ShutterstockGwenyth Paltrow’s company “Goop” made waves in January 2020 when they partnered with Heretics and released their “gorgeous, sexy, and beautifully unexpected scent,” the “This Smells Like My Vagina” candle. As many of Goop’s products do, the $75 eccentric candle sold out quickly, shoppers couldn’t wait to aromatize their spaces with these quirky decorations. However, not all were thrilled with their purchases. Mainly, Texas resident Colby Watson claims that the 10.5-ounce candle exploded in his bedroom, and is suing for damages.

He described how his bedroom was filled with smoke and the incident left a burn mark on his nightstand. However, aside from the inconvenience, Watson is suing for a whopping $5,000,000 on behalf of himself and others who purchased the candle. Mr. Watson asserts that the 2 sets of warnings in place are insufficient and that the candles have a design defect or manufacturing flaw that leads to inevitable danger.

Goop fired back, stating that they are, “confident this claim is frivolous and an attempt to secure an outsized payout from a press-heavy product. We stand behind the brands we carry and the safety of the products we sell.” This is the first complaint of the magnitude or sort that’s been publicized and must come as quite a surprise considering the candle has a 5-star rating on Heretics’ website.
