Police in Laurel, Maryland are investigating the homicide of a local lawyer considered “a young star” amongst his peers.

Officers discovered the body of Brian R. Bregman while investigating a possible robbery at his residence, located directly above his law office, on February 3rd.
Having graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law, Bregman was described as a jack-of-all-trades and practiced in a multitude of areas. These include criminal defense, civil litigation, personal injury, corporate and taxation. His office is located right in the heart of Laurel, on Main Street.
It was clear that Bregman had a burning passion for community. In his leisure time he dabbled in a myriad of public safety positions including a paramedic, a volunteer firefighter, a forensic investigator for the state of Maryland, and a reserve police officer in Washington, D.C.
According to his peers he left long-lasting impacts on those who he worked with, most notably with the Greenbelt Volunteer Fire Department and in his work with the D.C. police in Washington for over 16 years.
David Zwanetz, a criminal defense attorney in Columbia, Maryland, told the Washington Post that Bregman had a reputation as a “statutory wizard” whom other lawyers called with legal questions.
D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee announced Bregman’s death in an email to the department Wednesday night. “Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” he wrote.
Laura Guenin, a spokesperson for the Laurel Police Department, stated there are no updates to release at this time, saying, “The investigators are working around the clock following up on every lead to solve this.”
