A new season is (just about) upon us, and we can finally start seriously thinking about warmer weather ahead. As we stow away the boots and winter coats and set our sights on lighter, more skin-revealing wardrobe options, are your skin and body ready? Plastic surgeon and medical director/founder of The Laser Lounge non-surgical aesthetic spain Newport Beach, California, Dr. Sanjay Grover, shares the top treatments that can help get you ready for spring and summer (which will be here before we know it)!
Dermasweep
Why not shed dull, dry winter skin along with all those extra layers of clothing? “Dermasweep offers all of the exfoliating, skin-rejuvenating benefits of microdermabrasion without the mess of aluminum oxide crystals—plus the ability to customize treatment with various ‘infusions’ that target specific skin concerns,” explains Dr. Grover. Using vacuum suction to whisk away dead, dull cells, deep-clean the pores and promote circulation for a fresh-faced glow, it’s the ideal downtime-free treatment for visible signs of aging, discoloration, acne, scars and more.
Clear + Brilliant
“Essentially a less intense version of Fraxel skin-resurfacing, this 30-minute (or less) treatment helps refine skin texture and clarity while improving the appearance of fine lines, pores, dullness and other skin concerns,” says Dr. Grover. Mild redness and slightly grainy skin texture are possible for a few days afterwards, but it’s small price to pay for fresher, visibly healthier-looking skin.
Chemical peels
The beauty of chemical peels is that they can be customized to meet a patient’s downtime restrictions as well as their desired outcomes. Dr. Grover often recommends trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peels, which can be performed as a series to eliminate visible side effects of treatment afterwards, or as one or two deeper peels for quick, significant improvement in wrinkles, unwanted pigment and acne. “These peels also provide ongoing improvement thanks to a stimulating the body’s natural collagen production,” Dr. Grover adds.
Laser hair removal
Shorter hemlines and sleeveless tops call for fuzz-free skin, and starting laser hair removal now can have you ready to bare all once the temperatures heat up. Dr. Grover recommends a series of laser hair removal sessions for optimal results and says, “This treatment helps eliminate the hassle of shaving, waxing, plucking and other hair removal methods so you can enjoy smooth, soft skin from head to toe with minimal maintenance.”
Non-invasive fat-reduction
Liposuction surgery isn’t the only solution for stubborn bulges of fat that just won’t budge despite a healthy diet and regular exercise. Non-invasive fat-reduction treatments such as Vanquish (which uses radiofrequency) or CoolSculpting (which uses cold energy to freeze and destroy fat cells) can help target trouble spots and deliver a slimmer silhouette over a series of treatments—and have you bikini-ready by the time beach season comes around.
VelaShape III
Cellulite is a concern for many women—even those who are slim and fit. Dr. Grover explains, “The newest generation of VelaShape uses a combination of vacuum suction, massage, radiofrequency and infrared light to help smooth dimples and divots and on the thighs, buttocks and beyond while offering smoothing, tightening and fat-reduction benefits as well.” A series of treatments are recommended for optimal results, which are apparent six to eight weeks after the final session—so start now!
ExilisUltra 360
According to Dr. Grover, “Sagging skin is a common concern on both the face and body, and the latest version of Exilis uses computer-controlled radiofrequency and ultrasound energies to remodel existing collagen within the skin and prompt the natural production of more.” This effective solution for wrinkles, skin laxity and loss of elasticity also helps ensure patient comfort by monitoring skin temperature from start to finish and delivering surface cooling as collagen-stimulating heat is sent deep into the skin. Four to six sessions spaced two weeks apart are recommended for optimal results, although patients can opt for additional treatments for further improvement.
