The skies the limit, but proving it is a whole other story. When sitting down with Haute Beauty expert Dr. Ellen Burov, a now award-winning board-certified dermatologist we were able to hear how she persevered to creating the practice she has today. Here's what Haute Beauty learned:

My greatest achievement:

Being a first-generation immigrant and building a successful practice on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, New York are two achievements that I will forever hold near and dear to my heart.

What is the future of your field?

We have already seen technology make significant strides in dermatology. As the future persists, I am excited to see more artificial intelligence (AI) and technology for diagnosing difficult melanocytic lesions as well as for rejuvenation procedures.

The biggest misconception about my field is...

There are two that I find necessary to note. 1) A lot of people think you can make a diagnosis just by looking at pictures or out-of-focus pictures. 2) Dermatology seems like an easy field, when in fact medical dermatology is of the most intellectually demanding specialities around.

My most requested procedures:

Dermal fillers for restoring lost volume or diminishing facial lines and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for reactivating your natural repair for rejuvenation.

What are you best known for?

We offer a wide range of cosmetic procedures that address every level of aesthetic needs. We are best known for our balanced approach to rejuvenation and the services offered in women's dermatology.

What is your most memorable patient reaction?

Seeing a patient's reactions is the highlight of my day. As I have been in practice for quite some time, you can imagine I've seen a lot. The two that will forever be engrained in my brain are these:

  1. One of my patients told me that she got married because of me. Her fiancée told her that he was afraid to approach her before because of her angry look. After Botox on her forehead, her angry look was gone and it led to a wedding.
  2. A husband of one of my patients (who is also my patient) told me that when he asked his wife what would she want for 50-year marriage anniversary, she responded “I want Dr. Burov.”

What sets my practice apart?

I spend quality time with my patients and ensure that I am only adopting technologies that I would use on myself and see gratifying results.

What I love most about my profession:

The combination of aesthetic, visual, and intellectual aspects of dermatology.

Career-defining procedure?

The non-surgical facelift.

What are you most excited about?

I am very excited about the new Acne laser, AviClear which will be arriving at the office in around two weeks!
