This might sound crazy, but Dr. P. Daniel Ward's job as a facial plastic surgeon has very little to do with how people look. What is meant by that is that the results that people strive to achieve as patients who undergo facial plastic surgery procedures such as rhinoplasty, facelift, neck lift, blepharoplasty, hair restoration, etc, are not usually about vanity or simply about appearances. It is actually about how they feel.

Here Haute Beauty sat down with Haute Beauty expert Dr. Ward to discuss how patients are interested in feeling better and how his job, as a facial plastic surgeon, is to help them feel better by addressing how they look. This is what he had to say:

One of my favorite experiences is seeing patients at their post-op appointments and seeing the change they have undergone. Of course, as an artist who deals with the face, I am always interested in looking at the results of my work. However, it is the happiness and joy that I get to experience from these patients that is the true reward. I am surprised at how often my patients tell me that having facial plastic surgery has changed their life.

I don't say that I used to think that it was me, as the surgeon that was improving their lives! I now realize that, in most cases, the patient’s life has been improved, because the rhinoplasty, facelift, filler injection, or whatever procedure they underwent, was an investment in themselves. It actually has very little to do with their results from facial plastic surgery. It is just that this experience is a step toward living the type of life they want to live.

Many patients use their facial plastic surgery experience as an opportunity to invest in other areas of their life. They start eating better, they exercise more, they start lifting weights, they focus on their wellness, they meditate, they start practicing yoga. Regardless of what habits they have picked up, what they are really doing is overcoming one of the most difficult things our society faces today, which is the lack of self-nourishment and care that I believe is necessary for us to feel fulfilled and satisfied with life.

I am happy that I can work as a facial plastic surgeon, where I can focus on improving my patients' lives and join them in their journey of living their best possible lives. Every single day is an opportunity for me to meet with these patients and feel inspired.
