She She’s an Oscar-winning actress, a retired trendsetter for ’90s-era fashion, the founder of Goop and the creator of the one and only vagina candle. She’s Gwyneth Paltrow.
Despite Paltrow’s coveted beauty and badass level of stardom, the 49-year-old multihyphenate still faced the common anxiety of approaching middle age. “I had a full midlife crisis when I was turning 40, and I went to this doctor and had a really bad injectable experience,” Paltrow told Vogue. “I came out a complete monster, and I was like, I can’t do this anymore.”
A victim of injectable trauma, Paltrow swore off the idea of permanent cosmetic procedures. That was until she found herself at an injectable party among friends where a doctor happened to be administering vials of Xeomin. “Fuck it, I’ll just do a little,” she said. “I was so afraid that it was really going to change my face like the first time, but it was so nice and really subtle.”

Flashing forward to now, Paltrow recently became the ambassador for the pharmaceutical company and gets biannual Xeomin touch-ups to keep herself feeling fresh in both body and mind. She also refers to the toxin’s minimal-ingredient promise as “the purified aspect,” which New York dermatologist Michelle Henry explains is one less concern for patients. “Xeomin has removed a lot of the proteins that other companies have in their neurotoxins, which makes it less likely to tamper with our immune systems,” Henry told Vogue.
Besides treating her skin with the occasional injectable, Paltrow also follows the notion of “less is more” when using skincare products. “As part of this simplification, the concept of skin minimalism has really resonated with me: the idea that I don’t need a 30-step routine to keep my skin looking great, and that a few select products can help me look and feel my best,” she said. In case you’re wondering, a few of her current obsessions include GoopGenes All-in-One Super Nutrient Face Oil, Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum, the GoopGlow vitamin C serum and GoopGlow 15% Glycolic Acid Overnight Glow Peel. Lastly, she keeps her skincare routine extra simple by exfoliating her canvas and frequently visiting her dermatologist.
