How Desi Perkins Styles Her Hair Despite Postpartum Loss

With pregnancy and childbirth comes a number of side effects: weight gain, nausea, pain, and more. However, postpartum hair loss remains one of the least talked about repercussions of giving birth. Though experiencing this stage of early parenthood might feel self-conscious, Desi Perkins made sure to stay real with her fans. Becoming a first-time mother in October 2020, the 34-year-old beauty influencer recently made a TikTok revealing her fragmented baby hairs to share how she styles her postpartum regrowth.

“Hiding those hairs has me feeling like an international super spy,” Perkins captioned her video from June 16. Barefaced and exposing her unstyled hair, the Youtuber comically flaunted her thick baby hairs that wrapped around her front hairline and looked to be an inch long. “What do I do with this? My options right now with this are a headband and/or some serious edge design work — some swirls, some swoops,” she said while considering how to arrange the strands.

A transformation surely ensued, as the video transitioned to show Perkins rocking a sleek, high topknot bun with her baby hairs gracefully swooped to the sides. To achieve the look, she used Got2B Glued Invincible Styling Gel. Although she mentioned she was running late (we don’t know the destination), Perkins still pulled off a seemingly flawless updo despite the awkward regrowth phase — if she can do this, then anyone can!

According to Haute Beauty expert Dr. Amy Lewis, the most common presentation of hair loss results from telegenic effluvium hair shedding, which happens after psychological or physical events, including childbirth. However, this condition can also occur because of a job change, divorce, major moves, or even from experiencing COVID-19! Essentially, any undue anxiety can trigger hair loss.

Thankfully, a number of non-invasive and minimally invasive treatments exist to repair hair follicles and stimulate the growth of strong hair. Such treatments include oral supplements for natural hair growth; a topical serum — Lewis’ custom-made Hair RX Complex was formulated with finasteride, minoxidil, biotin, and more — to regrow hair while increasing retention and weight; and PRP therapy, which requires minimally invasive injections of one’s own plasma to regenerate hair follicles and arouse hair growth.
