Kybella is the first and only FDA injectable drug approved for dissolving and contouring submental fat and reducing the appearance of moderate to severe fat under the chin. The active ingredient in Kybella is comprised of deoxycholic acid, which occurs naturally in the body, and aids in the absorption and breakdown of dietary fat. Kybella is injected into the targeted areas of fat under the chin to dissolve these fat cells.

How does the consultation for Kybella work with Dr. Green in NYC?
A careful examination of the neck and jowls is done to determine if there is any skin laxity. If a patient has too much skin laxity, they may not be the best candidate for Kybella injections. A treatment plan is then discussed and the number of treatments needed to dissolve the submental fat is discussed. Many patients see results in as little as 2 to 3 sessions. The number of treatment sessions depends on the degree of submental fat in the area and the desired results. Kybella injections for the destruction of fat cells are typically spaced four to six weeks apart, depending on the degree of swelling. The Kybella treatment, of deoxycholic acid, typically takes fifteen minutes to perform in Dr. Green’s NYC office and can be done on your lunch break. How many vials of Kybella are needed?
In general, two vials of Kybella are needed per treatment with 3 to 4 sessions to obtain optimum results. If the submental fat is a very small amount, only one vial of Kybella may be necessary. Most patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 treatment sessions. Similarly, if there is a large area of submental fat, 3 vials may be required to reduce the double chin area with up to 6 treatment sessions.

If there is a large amount of submental fat, two applications of CoolMini are best to treat both sides of the neck, to maximize the amount of chin fat reduced. Often, in these cases, two treatments of the CoolMini are best for the double chin, spaced approximately one month apart. After four months, you will have a decrease in fat with these two treatments for up to 40% of the submental fullness.
Kybella vs CoolMini
Kybella and CoolMini have complementary functions in reducing fat in the double chin. For patients who have an excess amount of submental fat, the decision to have CoolMini versus Kybella injections is an important one.
