HB: What are the options when it comes to neurotoxins?

There are currently 4 neurotoxins being used in the US. The first and most popular is Botox. While Botox has become a household name, Dysport has been gaining popularity among patients. There is also Xeomin and Jeuveau.

HB: What do you use neurotoxins to treat?

Depending on the Neurotoxin, will depend on what it is FDA approved to treat, but as a physician, I can treat off-label and I do treat a lot of areas with neurotoxins. The most common neurotoxin treatment I do is treating wrinkles all over the face and neck. Treating these wrinkles could be for pre-juvenation, to slow the aging process, or for rejuvenation, once the wrinkles have set in.

I treat the masseter to slim the face and to treat Bruxism. I treat hyperhidrosis, excessive sweating, with neurotoxins. the most common area is the axilla, but I also treat the scalp/hairline, hands and feet for sweating. I use neurotoxins in a toxin facial mixture and treat superficially to help improve acne and give the skin a glow.

HB: What are the side effects associated with getting neurotoxins injected?

The most common risks are the risk of bruising anywhere a patient is treated and the risk of ptosis when treating the glabella. There are other less common side effects that can happen as well.

HB: What are the benefits?

There are several benefits of using a neurotoxin:
- anti-aging- both for pre-juvenation and rejuvenation
- wrinkle reduction
- migraines
- reduction in sweating

HB: How do you decide what neurotoxin to use depending on the patient's needs?

Most patients come in asking for Botox and this is the most common toxin we use. We also do a good amount of Dysport. We also offer Juveau in our practice.

HB: What are the cost variants?

While the cost per unit is different on each of the neurotoxins, the amount or number of units that each patient needs vaires from toxin to toxin so per area the price ends up being about the same regardless of which neurotoxin they choose.
