HB: What is a Breast reduction?
Breast Reduction is a surgical procedure to reduce the size of breasts. It removes excess breast tissue, fat and skin to achieve a smaller breast, which in turn can alleviate some discomfort often associated with overly large breasts.
HB: What issues does a breast reduction work to address?
Breast reduction can not only improve a women’s self-image, but can also improve their quality of life. Women with overly large breasts often have neck or back pain, and they often have trouble with exercise due to the size of their breasts. Therefore this surgery can improve both appearance as well as the quality of life.
HB: Walk us through the breast reduction procedure.
Breast reduction is a highly individualized procedure to surgically remove the excess fat, glandular tissue and skin of the breast to completely reshape the breasts and lift them into a higher position on the chest wall.
HB: Who is a good candidate?
Breast reduction is a good option for a woman if they are otherwise physically healthy, they don’t smoke, they are bothered by the feeling that their breasts are too large, they are limited with physical activity due to size of the breasts, or they experience back or neck pain caused by the weight of their breasts. Other good indications for this surgery is if the bra straps leave indentations on the shoulders due to the heaviness of the breasts, or if they experience chronic skin irritation beneath the breast fold crease due to the weight of the breasts.

HB: What is recovery like?
Recovery for breast reduction is relatively simple. We recommend two weeks of no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise. Most patients find little to mild pain and can get by with Tylenol by day three from surgery. In addition most patients can drive as soon as they are off any narcotics, so that is usually just a few days. After two weeks they can begin low impact exercise.
HB: What is the cost?
The cost of breast reduction varies depending on how involved and how long the surgery will take. In general the cost can range from $15,000 - $17,000.
