Often referred to as the "lunchtime procedure," CoolSculpting has risen in non-surgical cosmetic treatments regarding fat reduction. Dr. Ariel Ostad sat down with Haute Beauty to discuss what to expect during CoolSculpting and how long results typically last from this procedure.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive and non-surgical procedure for fat reduction that eliminates 20%-25% of the targeted area in approximately 2-3 sessions. Repeat treatments can be done for additional improvement. Permanent fat reduction is done through a process called "cryolipolysis" where the fat cells are permanently destroyed by freezing. The fat is the excreted naturally through urine and other bodily fluids over a course of 2-3 months. Results can be seen around 6-8 weeks post procedure.

Who qualifies for this procedure?

Anyone who has stubborn areas of fat that do not respond to diet or exercise would be a good candidate for CoolSculpting.

What can patients expect during the procedure?

Patients can expect some discomfort for the first 5 minutes of the procedure after the applicator is applied. After that the area goes numb and is virtually painless. The treatment takes 35 minutes, large areas such as the abdomen need anywhere from 2-6 applications to cover the entire area adequately.

Which areas can be treated?

Areas that can be treated are abdomen, flanks, upper arms, inner and outer thighs as well as the double chin area.

What is the recovery process?

CoolSculpting is considered a “lunchtime” procedure, meaning there is no real downtime and a patient can resume activity right away. The area treated may be sore for a week but there is no downtime needed.

How long do results typically last?

Results for CoolSculpting are long lasting over years with a healthy diet and exercise.
