The Skin Cancer Foundation held its 22nd annual Gala at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. Over 400 notable guests gathered at the signature fundraising event and raised $600,000 to support the organization’s educational campaigns, community programs, and research initiatives.
In addition to Skin Care Foundation Donors, industry and physician allies and more, prominent guest included Sofia Vergara, David Harbour, Condola Rashad, Kayli Carter, and Dolores Catania;
Following the cocktail reception guest were seated in the Grand Ballroom for the formal program and an evening emceed by Jeff Rossen, host of “Rossen Reports” on NBC TODAY. Rossen shared personal experiences with skin cancer and spoke about the commonalities between his work and the Foundation’s mission. Rossen offered useful tips, strategies, and takeaways to help better the lives of people.
Deborah S. Sarnoff, MD, president of the Skin Cancer Foundation, spoke about the impact of the Foundation’s work, noting that she believes in the work that she does and strives to celebrate the champions who face the disease head on.
The Champion for Change Award was presented to Robert J. Friedman, MD, for his dedication to skin cancer education. The Skin Cancer Foundation’s 2018 Media Award was presented to The Oprah Magazine, O, on behalf of the exceptional skin cancer-related editorial coverage.
In addition to the evening’s noteworthy events, guests were also serenaded by singer Neil Sedaka who performed a medley of his classic songs. And, auctioneer Patrick Tully led the crowd in a lively Fund the Mission pledge drive which raised $12,550 to help support the Foundation’s mobile skin care screening program, Destination: Healthy Skin.
