The Savannah College of Art and Design welcomed guests to their 5th Annual SCAD Style Etoile Awards in New York. Michael Douglas, Sara Ferguson, Duchess of York, and Diane Passage were among those in attendance who enjoyed an exclusive cocktail reception in the James Cohan Gallery.

Derek Lam Takes On the Antiquing World
It seems fitting that after all his success in women’s wear the San Francisco-born designer Derek Lam has touched the world of antiquing. OK, so he won’t be rummaging antique shops or hosting the Antiques Road Show with Mark Walberg anytime soon, but he is holding a special position for San Francisco’s Antiques Show. San Francisco’s Fall Antiques Show has named Derek Lam as Honorary Chair for the 2010 show. This year’s theme Chinoiserie: Rococo to Eco (which ties into the city-wide theme of Shanghai Celebration is set to occur October 28-31, 2010. Lam will be hosting the preview party on October 27 at the Fort Mason Center with show chair, Michele Goss.

Remember that tiny little boat Roman Abramovich decided to make? Eclipse, we believe it’s called? Well, it seems as though an intense “my-boat-is-better-than-yours” competition from fellow banking heir Andrey Melnichenko is commencing. Heck, it’s so fierce, Melnichenko gave it a one-letter name. The ostentatiously named A is a 394-foot bomb-proof boat that cost so much to build, it’s already put two companies out of businesses (possibly a third).

The Getty Museum Transforms Food into a Piece of Art
Food turned art? The representation of food has expanded itself to become useful in more ways than one. A recent exhibition at the Getty Museum brings food away from its normal role of simply filling that hunger void in our stomachs and transformed it into a collection of art. The exhibition, called “In Focus: Tasteful Pictures,” features a wide expansion of works of art dating back more than 150 years to the mid-19th century into the present day.

The World’s First Global Music Instrument Museum to Open in North Phoenix
On Saturday, April 24, Phoenix will celebrate the grand opening of the $250 million Musical Instrument Museum, an institution set to draw music enthusiasts and historians alike to the area in order to lay eyes on such gems as instruments from the Democratic Republic of Congo, one of the drums played at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, a Paul Simon guitar, and the piano on which John Lennon composed his song "Imagine."
