Art Basel’s organizing company, MCH Swiss Exhibition Basel Ltd., has teamed up with Asian Art Fairs Ltd., owners of the renowned Hong Kong International Art Fair (also known as ART HK). Ritz-Carlton plans to open its third property in Japan, this time in the ancient city of Kyoto. This project, which includes the rebuilding of now closed Hotel Fujita Kyoto, is expected to start early next year and be completed by 2014. The hotel will feature fewer than 140 guest rooms, restaurants and a spa, all combining aspects from both traditional Japanese and Western luxury hotel styles.
