This past Monday a private launch for a new fragrance collection by Armani Prive called “La Collection des Milles et Une Nuit” was held at the Armani Prive for Dubai’s VIP residents. VIPs were flown in from Beirut and Saudi Arabia and included the attendance of the Italian Consulate’s wife Luigia Gali and Lebanese socialite and businesswoman Siham Tueni.

One of the most eagerly anticipated shows of Dubai Fashion week was “I’m a Queen” by popular designer Furne One. The designer’s brand “Amato”, which means “loved” or “beloved” in Italian, features creations laden with gold and ivory color and greatly embellished with Swarovski crystals. His latest collection is inspired by Elizabethan era clothes and was revealed in a performance choreographed by the designer.

Opening tonight at the Farjam Collection in Dubai is an exhibition entitled Nujoom: Constellations of Arab Art. Featuring works by some of the foremost modern and contemporary artists such as Mahmoud Said, Nja Mahdaoui, Mona Hatoum and Youssef Nabil, the exhibit explores some of the most formative styles and techniques apparent in the history of Arab art over the last century.

Currently on view at the Third Line Gallery in Dubai is “Pins and Needles” an exhibition featuring work by Iraqi artist Hayv Kahraman. The artist’s drawings portray graceful depictions of women often ravaged by the hardships of war. The figures are reminiscent of Japanese traditional art as well as Persian miniatures and art nouveau posters.

Ayyam Gallery has recently opened two new branches in Cairo and in Dubai bringing the total number of their gallery spaces to five. The Cairo gallery opened on October 19th with a solo show by Syrian artist Safwan Dahoul and in Dubai the new DIFC venue located in gate village opened on October 25th featuring works by Khaled Takreti.

This past Tuesday at Christie’s Dubai the collection of Mohammed Said Farsi sold $6,731,750 making it the most expensive collection ever to be sold at auction in the Middle East totalling $15.4 million for part I and II.
