The folks over at Living Social have put together a little survey about the dining habits of San Francisco and the rest of America.

The Living Social survey involved 4,000 people who either made an online purchase within the last six months or said they were very likely to make an online purchase in the next six months. In other words, not necessarily Living Social customers, but rather, general online consumers. Some of the findings were interesting (San Franciscans consider themselves the country’s healthiest eaters) while some, not so much (for instance, SF diners are trying Thai food more).

Fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger has called off plans to purchase the Clock Tower, the landmarked office tower overlooking Madison Square Park. Hilfiger had planned to convert the tower into a luxury hotel and condominium.

Apmex, one of the nation’s largest and most active precious metal dealers has traded three 32-ounce gold bars with Donald Trump in exchange for a 10-year lease for 40 Wall Street’s 50th floor valued at a security deposit of about $176,000. Known for its attention-getting stunts, Smith & Wollensky is at it again – this time, offering to change the name of one of its restaurants to salute devoted customers.

The company – Fourth Wall Restaurants and the restaurant – the Smith & Wollensky steakhouse in Midtown Manhattan. Each day from October 3rd through the 31st, a faithful customer of Smith & Wollensky will see his or her name replace the “Smith” on the brand trappings of the restaurant including signs, awnings, matchbooks, cocktail napkins and waiters’ jackets.

InterContinental has announced ambitious plans to open 100 hotels in Russia by 2020, an expansion of almost ten times the number operating in Russia today.

The hotel chain announced September 12 that it aimed to capitalize on growing tourism to the country by significantly adding to the number of hotels it operates, across brands such as InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Hotel Indigo.
