Held September 29 at the Hank Kline Club of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami Dade, the event brought together middle and high school students for an afternoon centered on honest conversations, connection and practical ways to support friends facing mental health challenges.
The event was held in recognition of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and carried the theme “Physical Strength. Mental Well Being. Honest Support.” The discussion focused on encouraging young people to speak openly about how they feel while helping them understand when and how to seek support for themselves or someone they care about.

Stephane Colleu, President and CEO of Dr. Brandt Skincare, opened the conversation by highlighting the importance of self care and overall wellness. He discussed maintaining an active lifestyle and healthy diet while also sharing the personal story behind his decision to establish the Dr. Brandt Foundation, adding a personal dimension to the afternoon’s message.

Representatives from The Jed Foundation and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention joined Colleu for the discussion, offering guidance on how young people can respond when a friend is struggling with mental health concerns or thoughts of suicide. Their participation reinforced the importance of creating an environment where asking for help is encouraged and conversations about mental health can happen without judgment.

Rather than approaching mental health as a topic that should remain private, the program encouraged students to recognize the value of honest communication and meaningful support. The shared message was that young people can play an important role in looking out for one another while also understanding the importance of turning to trusted adults and professional resources when additional help is needed.
Following the program, the Dr. Brandt Foundation provided gift bags to participating teens. Students also enjoyed light food and refreshments donated by Pura Vida Miami, adding a relaxed community element to the event.

The Miami gathering brought together the Dr. Brandt Foundation, The Jed Foundation, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami Dade around a common goal: helping young people feel more comfortable discussing mental health and supporting friends who may be going through difficult experiences.
Through its #SayILoveYou Speaker Series, the Dr. Brandt Foundation continues to use conversation and community engagement as a way to encourage wellness and connection among young people. The Miami event demonstrated how creating a safe space for honest dialogue can help make mental health conversations feel more accessible to the next generation.
