Music, philanthropy, and global cultural collaboration will come together this spring in Miami as the Playing For Change Foundation prepares to host its highly anticipated 2026 Impact Awards. The annual celebration recognizes artists, visionaries, and advocates whose work harnesses creativity to inspire positive change around the world.
Taking place on April 11, 2026, at the iconic Rubell Museum in Miami, the Foundation’s largest annual fundraiser will honor Grammy Award winning artist and global humanitarian Wyclef Jean with the prestigious Impact Award. Acclaimed photographer, filmmaker, and humanitarian Nigel Barker will receive the organization’s inaugural Visual Impact Award, recognizing influential creators whose storytelling amplifies humanitarian causes and drives meaningful social awareness.
Wyclef Jean is being recognized for his decades long commitment to global philanthropy and youth empowerment through music, education, and innovation. Beyond his influential music career, Jean has continuously leveraged his platform to support initiatives that create opportunities for young people worldwide. Through his founding of Yéle Haiti and partnerships with organizations such as Music Will, he has helped expand music education programs in public schools while also supporting underserved communities with instruments and resources that foster creativity and leadership.
Jean has also supported international innovation initiatives including FIRST Global, helping promote robotics education and youth development programs in Haiti. Across these efforts, he has consistently demonstrated how music and creativity can serve as powerful tools to inspire leadership, strengthen communities, and empower the next generation of changemakers around the world.
“Music has always been my way of connecting people to hope and to each other,” said Jean. “Playing For Change represents the spirit of unity and compassion that the world needs more of, and I’m grateful to be part of a movement that empowers young people to use their voices for peace and progress.”
Nigel Barker will make history as the first recipient of the newly established Visual Impact Award, a recognition designed to honor creators working beyond the realm of music who use visual storytelling to amplify important global issues. Throughout his career as a photographer and filmmaker, Barker has used his platform to highlight causes related to education, conservation, and social justice while bringing global visibility to communities often overlooked by mainstream media.
“I am deeply honored to receive the first Visual Impact Award from the Playing For Change Foundation,” Barker said. “Visual storytelling has the power to move people to empathy and action, and I’m proud to support an organization that understands how art in all its forms can help shape a better future.”
The 2026 gala will embrace the vibrant theme “Copacabana Meets Art Deco,” celebrating Miami’s centennial while paying tribute to the city’s distinctive cultural identity and artistic legacy. The immersive evening will feature live performances from acclaimed musicians alongside talented students participating in the Foundation’s local partnership programs with the Overtown Youth Center and Young Musicians Unite. These collaborations highlight how music education continues to transform lives and strengthen communities across the globe.
One of the evening’s most powerful moments will be the debut of Voices for Change: A Global Youth Choir, an extraordinary musical collaboration uniting students from Playing For Change programs worldwide. Thirty students will perform live on stage while more than 300 additional young performers appear via video projections, forming a single global choir representing youth from Rwanda, Uganda, Ghana, Nepal, India, Brazil, Mexico, and the United States. The performance will also celebrate the release of the project’s upcoming album, delivering a powerful collective message of unity and peace through music.
The evening will be guided by an influential leadership group dedicated to advancing the Foundation’s global mission. Co-Chairs for the 2026 Impact Awards include Whitney Kroenke Silverstein and Nick Silverstein, Jessica Plush and Jerry Plush, and Charita Upkins and Louis Upkins.
A distinguished Host Committee will also support the evening, including Randi Wolfson Adamo and Chris Adamo, Casey Cole Ray, Timolin Cole Augustus, Grace Heekin and Charlie Heekin, Liza Hinman and Abe Burns, Elizabeth Hutcheson and Jimmy Hutcheson, David Hryck, Ann Kroenke, Karolina Kurkova and Archie Drury, Kelsey Levy and Matt Greer, Erica Mutchnik and Mark Mutchnik, Cristina Perez and Nico MacLean, Linda Rizk and Tom Rizk, and Will Waller.
Corporate partners will also play a significant role in supporting the Foundation’s mission, including title partner Capital One Entertainment, along with Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Jockey, Spin Magazine, Golden Goat Caviar, Perrier Jouët, and Bacardi. These collaborations reflect the growing recognition that music and the arts can serve as powerful vehicles for cultural exchange and social impact.
“Each year, the Impact Awards remind us that music is more than performance — it’s a pathway to dignity, opportunity, and connection,” said Whitney Kroenke Silverstein. “By honoring artists like Wyclef and expanding our vision with the Visual Impact Award for Nigel, we are celebrating creativity in all its forms and the extraordinary ripple effect it can have on young people around the world.”
For nearly two decades, the Playing For Change Foundation has worked to empower youth through music and arts education in communities rich in culture but often limited in resources. Today the organization operates 137 locations across 27 countries and engages more than 800 teachers, staff members, and cultural leaders globally. Programs reach communities across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the United States, helping young people preserve cultural heritage while building new opportunities for education and creative expression.
As anticipation builds for the 2026 Impact Awards, the event promises to deliver far more than a memorable evening in Miami. It will stand as a powerful reminder that music and the arts continue to serve as universal languages capable of connecting cultures, uplifting communities, and inspiring a new generation to create meaningful change.
