In a moment that quietly reshapes the future of bespoke luxury, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has unveiled Phantom Arabesque, a one of one commission that introduces the world’s first fully laser engraved bonnet, transforming the already iconic Rolls-Royce Phantom into a moving canvas inspired by the architectural soul of the Middle East.
This landmark Phantom Extended represents more than an aesthetic milestone, it signals a new chapter in contemporary craftsmanship, born from a five year development journey led by Rolls Royce’s Exterior Surface Centre, where artisans and engineers collaborated to create a patented laser engraving process capable of delivering extraordinary depth, clarity, and tactile refinement directly within the paint surface itself.

Drawing inspiration from mashrabiya latticework, a defining element of traditional Arabian architecture, the bonnet design echoes the geometric poetry found across historic homes, palaces, and courtyards throughout the region, reinterpreted here through modern precision while preserving its cultural resonance and functional elegance.
Rather than applying decoration on top of the paint, the process integrates the pattern into the surface itself, with the bonnet first finished in a darker tone, sealed beneath layers of clear coat, then overlaid with a lighter top color before being engraved to a depth of just 145 to 190 microns, revealing the darker shade beneath and creating a sculptural, three dimensional effect that shifts subtly as light moves across it, each engraved section carefully hand sanded to achieve Rolls Royce’s exacting standards.

Inside, the same mashrabiya language continues with quiet confidence, most strikingly within the Gallery that spans the full width of the front fascia, where an intricate Bespoke marquetry artwork crafted from Blackwood and Black Bolivar wood mirrors the exterior geometry, complemented by an offset clock in a deep, coordinated colorway that reinforces the car’s calm, architectural rhythm.
The interior palette leans into cool restraint, pairing Selby Grey and Black leathers with Black seat piping and carpets, while embroidered mashrabiya motifs appear on both front and rear headrests, Starlight Doors glow softly with Selby Grey piping and Black contrast stitching, and illuminated treadplates reveal a cross section of the bonnet engraving motif, creating a seamless narrative from exterior artistry to interior atmosphere.

For the design team, mashrabiya offered more than visual inspiration, representing a philosophy of privacy, airflow, and filtered light, qualities traditionally used to cool interiors while preserving intimacy, now translated into automotive form through layered materials, subtle illumination, and spatial harmony that feels both culturally rooted and unmistakably Rolls Royce.
What makes Phantom Arabesque especially compelling is how it balances advanced technology with human touch, combining laser precision with meticulous hand finishing to create a surface intended to be experienced not only visually but physically, inviting exploration through texture and reflection, a reminder that true luxury lives in details discovered slowly rather than announced loudly.

As the first expression of this newly patented engraving technique, Phantom Arabesque opens an entirely new creative frontier for future commissions, extending Rolls Royce’s vocabulary of bespoke craftsmanship while honoring centuries old design traditions through contemporary innovation, proving once again that the marque’s most powerful statements are often delivered in quiet confidence, where heritage, technology, and artistry converge into something timeless.
