From a young age, Ashana Sule imagined building a future in the United States. That aspiration stemmed from her childhood, when she used Google Maps with her friends to take screenshots of the places they dreamed of visiting.

Sule’s journey to attend Rutgers University in New Jersey was hindered by numerous obstacles, particularly after she began documenting her experiences on YouTube. Self-doubt in the early stages of content creation encouraged feelings of vulnerability, as did the challenge of remaining authentic.

Now a curator of calm, intentional living, Sule creates content that merges beauty, wellness, fashion, and personal growth into a cohesive lifestyle philosophy, which she shares with nearly 300,000 subscribers on YouTube alone. Her work has earned her YouTube’s Silver Play Button, a recognition awarded to creators who surpass 100,000 subscribers.

YouTube Beginnings and Paving the Way for a New Algorithm

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Marketing emphasis from Chapman University in California, Sule returned home and spent two years creating content on YouTube. However, during this time, she began to doubt its prospects as a long-term career option.

“I wasn’t sure if it was financially feasible,” Sule shares, “so I got demotivated and stopped posting on YouTube.”

She withdrew from her community, her family, and even her friends. Her father recognized her struggles and urged her to move forward in life, however that might be. Sule’s decision to apply to New York University for a Master’s Degree in Project Management was made on a whim. Upon acceptance, she realized it was the perfect next step.

The Lifestyle Change of New York City

Sule has shared that the minute she stepped into New York City, she fell in love. During her initial visit, when she explored its streets with her father, she knew that this change would be for the better.

“Being in New York reignited my passion for YouTube,” Sule shares.

This passion transformed everything in her life, including her plan to move back after completing her master’s program. However, falling in love with the city and the prospect of opportunities opened up a whole new world for her.

“New York started to feel like home, a city I could build my future in,” the content creator says.

“Sometimes the moments where it feels like nothing is happening are actually preparing you for bigger things,” the content creator says. “Your uniqueness is your biggest strength, and the right people will always find you.”
