Today, entrepreneur Mike Clum has built a diversified business portfolio centered around creative services, commercial real estate, and documentary filmmaking. What began with a $600 camera has grown into multiple successful ventures, all driven by a philosophy of building cash-flowing businesses that create the freedom to pursue larger creative ambitions.
Dropping out of college while attending Miami University proved to be one of the defining decisions of Mike’s career. Armed with little more than a camera, he began cold calling businesses throughout his hometown of Cleveland, offering to produce marketing videos. By consistently delivering results, he built a reputation that eventually led to the founding of Clum Creative.
Clum Creative Founded in 2011, Clum Creative is a creative services company specializing in cinematic video production, animation, and branded content for businesses across the United States. Over the years, the company has partnered with hundreds of organizations, from growing startups to Fortune 500 companies, helping them communicate their stories through high-quality visual content. Rather than building a traditional production company staffed exclusively by filmmakers,
Mike assembled a team that combined creative talent with marketing and business expertise. This unique approach allowed Clum Creative to produce content that was not only visually compelling but strategically designed to generate measurable business results for clients. The company’s modern approach to video production fueled years of rapid growth and established Clum Creative as one of the leading creative agencies in its region.
Investing in Real Estate As Clum Creative expanded, Mike adopted a long-term investment philosophy centered on reinvesting profits rather than maximizing short-term personal income. He began acquiring commercial real estate, building a portfolio of income-producing properties that generated recurring cash flow while appreciating over time.
These investments diversified his business interests and created a stable financial foundation independent of client work. By combining operating businesses with long-term real estate ownership, Mike was able to build wealth through multiple complementary income streams.
Funding Independent Documentaries
The financial stability created through Clum Creative and commercial real estate eventually enabled Mike to pursue a lifelong passion for documentary filmmaking.
Rather than relying on outside investors or traditional studio financing, he has been able to self-fund ambitious documentary projects while maintaining complete creative and editorial independence. His films often involve years of research, extensive interviews, and large-scale productions that would be difficult to undertake without that financial flexibility.
Today, Mike continues to expand his work across business, real estate, and documentary filmmaking. His long-term vision is to use entrepreneurship not simply as an end in itself, but as a means of creating the freedom to tell important stories on his own terms.
