When Tom and Sally Jordan decided to build their namesake winery in Healdsburg’s Alexander Valley in 1972, they set out to create an estate inspired by the ones found in France. They wanted it to be a place where the sublime marriage of food and wine would flourish and be celebrated for years to come. The Jordans were successful, and over the past 43 years, the family has created a brand known as much for its superb Cabernet Sauvignon as it is for its exceptional wine country dinners.

To ensure that this legacy lasts well into the future, the winery has revealed a stunning new dining room. San Francisco-based Geoffrey De Sousa designed the renovated space; it is the interior guru’s first project at a winery. De Sousa worked closely with John Jordan, the winery’s second generation vintner, and Todd and Nitsa Knoll, the husband and wife chef team who oversees Jordan’s culinary program.

The reworked space is a modern interpretation of classic 18th-century French-inspired decor. High-back dining chairs now feature haute embroidery. The walls are covered in a forest-like wallpaper pattern (from Italian graphic designer Lorenzo De Grandis) that mimics the nearby woodlands. New lighting, a bronze fireplace, floor-to-ceiling gold-leaf drapes, custom vases, and vintage terracotta floor tiles are a few of the original design elements.

“We always enjoy working with spaces that have strong architectural features and a story to tell,” De Sousa said in a statement. “The Jordan dining room is now not only an homage to old-world France, but it’s also a portrait of the surrounding estate and the chef’s philosophy.” Photographs, taken by chef Knoll of moss-covered stones, wild mushrooms, and other natural-inspired vignettes found on the property, double as artwork in the dining room.

“I’d always loved the dining room, with the French neoclassical lines and antiques, but I wanted the space to show reverence to nature and the habitats across our estate that inspire my cooking,” Knoll added. “Our vision for the dining room remodel was to refresh the room in a way that pays respect to our French inspiration while honoring the land and conveying an appreciation of timeless beauty and craftsmanship. The new design has brought drama, elegance, and mystery to the space.”

The first significant event to take place in the new dining room is Jordan’s spring dinner with the winemakers on May 4. However, if you book an estate tour and tasting, you’ll most likely get a good look at the beautiful space.
