Bryant and Justine Sharifi know a thing or two about the human body. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist—which means that he can train higher level athletes. She is a Registered Nurse. Together the dynamic husband and wife founded Perform for Life, a unique type of fitness studio that specializes in private classes with a focus on strength training, in 2014. The Sharifis all-encompassing approach to incorporating exercise into one’s lifestyle developed a large following. Everyone from professional boxers to high school basketball players was lining up to receive Perform For Life’s personal coaching.

“Sitting is the new smoking,” Justine recently told Haute Living, explaining why so many people are interested in private training. Unlike some boutique fitness programs, Perform for Life takes a refreshingly positive point of view. “Our coaches don’t beat you up. We meet you where you are and bring you up. It’s not about breaking you down.” With its growing client base, the Sharifis saw the need to expand. They’ve recently opened a second location of Perform for Life on the corner of Market and Gough Streets in Hayes Valley.

The new space is large and airy. Private training and small group classes—with no more than four students—are on the schedule. Perform for Life offers various monthly packages that allow different levels of training. Justine recommends three classes per week to change the body.

The intimacy of the studio is energizing. Everyone who walks in Justine personally greets. “There is a Cheers approach,” she explains “we know everyone by first name.” She believes that the welcoming atmosphere and friendly familiar faces provide more accountability to the workouts. “We focus on personal and professional growth. It’s our goal to create a place that feels like play, so much so that you want to do it on a regular basis.” Take just one class at Perform for Life and you’ll realize that the Sharifis are accomplishing their mission.
