Whitney Port Dishes On Staying Healthy And Active As A Young Mom
Haute Living had the chance to catch up with reality star and style influencer Whitney Port during her event activation in partnership with LACTAID® and Flywheel Sports. Sherica Holmon and Emily Fayette hosted a high energy 45-minute class in NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood to highlight the benefits of incorporating real dairy into your wellness routine.
To Port, living a healthy and active lifestyle is incredibly important and we discussed how that plays a role in her life as a new, young and fabulous mom.

Tell us about your partnership with LACTAID®.
My husband is actually lactose intolerant and wouldn’t really take charge and take care of it, so I decided to do it for him – I guess which is what all good wives do. I brought LACTAID® into the house and we substituted it for regular milk because it’s 100% dairy but doesn’t have lactose in it. Now he can enjoy his cereal, coffee, and smoothies with milk and not be uncomfortable afterwards. It’s a really great partnership because I obviously rely on them to keep my husband feeling good.
How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle while being a young mom?
I think the most important thing is getting in a good sweat. I think that it’s so important to spend time with yourself and get those endorphins running. We need that time for ourselves to be the best version of ourselves for ourselves and our families.
So do you think that’s been the thing that has kept you positive through some of those more trying times?
I think there are a couple of things; Working out, eating well, taking care of your body so I think physical is one aspect. But emotionally, keeping communication really open with your partner and making sure you guys are on the same page is one of the most important things in order to stay sane in the first couple of months of having a child.

What advice would you give to a new mother?
Not to be scared to tell your partner how you really feel. I think that so many of us can feel a little bit lonely and ashamed of some thoughts we have about motherhood, like not super happy or excited. I think that it’s really important to share that with your significant other so they can help you through it and not be afraid of judgment.
What do you think the biggest misconception is of young mothers?
I feel like a lot of moms are open these days about how hard it is to balance work and family. I think the biggest thing for me, and what I say a bunch, is breastfeeding. A lot of people I’ve seen and saw before I got pregnant made it look really easy and this very natural and easy thing to do. It wasn’t for me and it’s not for a lot of people. I think it’s really important for people to share their trials and tribulations on this so that people don’t feel so alone if it doesn’t come so naturally to them.
What has been your biggest surprise of motherhood?
I think I was surprised by how much lack of sleep can affect you and your relationship. You take everything so seriously and everything becomes such a bigger deal when you don’t sleep. That was a really hard adjustment. I was surprised how much I was going to have to deal with no sleep then and now too. It just becomes part of your life and there’s no way around it.
Do you have a typical day or is every day is different?
Every day is totally different.
