Walt Disney Studios posted the trailer for A Wrinkle In Time on Tuesday, Jan. 22 to their YouTube Channel. Though the film has yet to be released, that hasn’t kept people from anticipating its theater debut. With big Hollywood names like Mindy Kaling, Oprah, and Big Little Lies’ Reese Witherspoon, it’s easy to understand why, but there’s more. A huge part of the film’s debut are the directors’ diverse cast.
A Wrinkle In Time, the Disney adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle‘s 1962 novel, is directed by the brilliant and visionary Ava DuVernay. She’s widely known for her work as director for Selma and her Netflix original documentary 13th, and collaborator to Jay Z and Beyoncé.
The film follows a 13-year-old girl named Meg Murry, played by Storm Reid, on an otherworldly journey to find her scientist father Dr. Alex Murry, played by Chris Pine. Murry is held captive on another planet. Mrs. Which, played by Oprah Winfrey, Mrs. Whatsit, played by Reese Witherspoon’s, and Mrs. Who, played Mindy Kaling, aid in the search for her father. Zach Galifianakis plays the female character The Happy Medium and the incredibly talented Michael Pena plays the sinister villain of the book known as Red. As if the cast isn’t enough anticipation build-up, perhaps the captivating scenery will.
