An Haute Occasion: Porsche Makes 1.000.000th 911
It is official, Porsche has made the 1 millionth 911, reconfirming once more the popularity and staying power of this landmark sports car. With about 70 percent of all the 911 ever builds still on the road today, it also testifies to the build quality of the car, which is known to have no problem been driven 100.000 miles and over. On average Porsche now makes between 30.000 and 33.000 911’s a year, and the production number of one million also includes all 912 models as well as the 934/935 race cars, and the 329 959’s ever made.

This figure makes the 911 also the most successful sports car ever made by a premium manufacturer. Of course, Porsche marked the occasion by creating a very special 911, painted in Irish Green. As this may come to some surprise, the car was based on Ferdinand Porsche’s personal 911, one of the very first made. Although in essence a regular Carrera S, it does feature many bespoke options.

Of course, the car is fitted with logo’s marking it as the 1.000.000th 911, but I personally got more excited by the leather seats with houndstooth patterned inserts, just as the original 1964. Another nice touch is that the use of the 1960’s version of the Porsche crest throughout the in- and exterior. To place the car even more in a 1960’s style Porsche used plenty of silver trim, and used mahogany in the interior.

The engine of the Carrera S is fitted with the Powerkit, which gives it 450 horsepower, and purists will be excited to know that Porsche equipped the 1.000.000th 911 with a seven-speed manual gearbox. Not that this Carrera S will do a lot of driving because after a world tour it will spend the rest of its days in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.
