Each year, Zagat performs surveys in popular U.S. cities to determine the industry leaders according to its readers. Rating more than 70 cities, Zagat tallies opinions on best restaurants, movie theaters, airlines, nightlife and shopping. The new polls performed by Zagat for 2010 were released this week in San Francisco. Voted as the top spot for food and popularity was once again Gary Danko. The winner reclaimed its top notch over former winner The French Laundry and the new rising star, Cyrus. As for offering the “Best bang for your buck,” that title was split between Saigon Sandwiches and the famous In & Out. The title winner for “Best Décor” is Sierra Mar at the Post Ranch Inn, which recently reopened. “Best newcomer” went to Top Chef Masters runner up, Michael Chiarello’s Bottega located in Napa.
In addition to reporting the survey results, Zagat also (not shockingly) noted that diners are spending less while out, and that they are more inclined to take advantage of special discounts.
