The Honey Shine 14th Annual Hats Off Luncheon
On May 3rd Honey Shine, Inc. hosted its 14th Annual Hats Off luncheon and fundraiser where the theme was “Celebrating Expression.” The Fiesta Ballroom at the Hilton Miami Downtown accommodated the event and the collection of women in attendance—including Tracy Wilson Mourning.
Keeping true to theme, guests sported hats that served as more than finishing touches for their outfits, but as tools of self-expression. This model of being true to oneself is a key aspect of the organization’s Camp Honey Shine which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Endorsed by the Carnival Foundation, the summer camp is a six-week program designed to empower young women in South Florida and promote their growth into confident and determined women. It is only fitting that the camp is held at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, a private all-girls institution which boasts the same ideals.
Honey Shine, Inc. was founded by Tracy Wilson Mourning in 2002, when she set out to initiate a Miami-based program rooted in mentorship, female empowerment, and excellence. The program recently expanded beyond Miami to Los Angeles and Dallas.
The luncheon treated guests to a fashion show, silent auction, music by Lisa Richards, and a post-lunch reception hosted by Centric. Guests enjoyed cocktails, Tanqueray, Zacapa Rum, and Veuve Clicquot as they bid and donated to support several Honey Shine programs like its after school sessions and annual college tours.
Honey Shine, Inc. has built around itself a network of support and sponsorship that is ever growing and set on honoring its mission. This year’s luncheon sponsorship came from the Carnival Foundation, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, Greenberg Traurig, the Miami Heat, Ryder, Centric, McBride Sisters, and Diageo.
