Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner and with historically close ties to Mexico, it’s only natural that Texas takes this holiday very seriously. This special date in history commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Being a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United State it is often mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day and has become a big celebration day for states particularly along the US-Mexico border including, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California.
