This Week In Dubai: Blaze, Today Show In Abu Dhabi

Dubai Summer Surprises continued this past week with several performances of Blaze the Show. Also the UAE celebrated World Humanitarian Day with the rest of the globe, and Today show host Al Roker came to Abu Dhabi to film and broadcast this week.

If you didn’t get a chance to see Blaze the Show at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre, then you really missed some spectacular performances. As part of Dubai Summer Surprises, the dancers performed two shows per day on Aug. 20 through 22. The show draws together 16 of the world’s best dancers from different parts of the globe and places them on a single stage where they dazzled the audience with their street dancing and breakdancing.

Some of the world’s hottest choreographers designed the moves, including Mike Song, Kenny Wormald, and Lyle Beniga. Among some of the remixes and music used for the show were hits by Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, and many others.

Blaze the Show has been traveling the world with performances in multiple cities and countries, including London, Bangkok, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Russia, Germany, Italy, and Australia.

Today show in Abu Dhabi

Also this week, The Today show is broadcasting from Abu Dhabi Corniche on Friday from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Al Roker landed in the UAE on Thursday with his daughter Leila. He filmed a short piece at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, reports The National.

Roker is helping launch a new show called 50/50 cohosted by Samantha Brown and Chris Grundy for the U.S. Travel Channel. On Wednesday, they selected three people to race to spend Dhs180,000 over 50 hours in Abu Dhabi, which is the first city to be featured on the new show. The first episode of 50/50 featuring Abu Dhabi will air on Oct. 4 in the U.S.

World Humanitarian Day

World Humanitarian day was on Wednesday, and Dubai joined the rest of the world in celebrating the world’s aid workers and volunteers. The UAE held an event at the Dubai Mall, which was attended by representatives from the United Nations and some of the world’s governments. Mohammed Abu Asaker, Public Communications Officer for the UN’s High Commission for Refugees in the UAE, noted that World Humanitarian Day is especially relevant for the Middle East because of the ongoing conflict in many areas, reports Khaleej Times.

The UAE has been especially generous in supporting aid workers, as The National reports that the nation has donated nearly Dhs4.9 billion over the last five years alone.
