Haute 100: Micky Arison’s Carnival To Begin Voluntourism Cruises
Voluntourism is not only restricted to land thanks to Carnival’s new cruise line called Fathom. Carnival Corporation announced that in April 2016, a new kind of cruise will begin leaving the Port of Miami weekly for those who want a hands-on experience in volunteering in the tropics. This gives those that want to lend a helping hand a chance to do so while simultaneously enjoying all the beauty that the Dominican Republic has to offer.
The 710-passenger cruise liner will depart Miami and take a seven-day journey to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. There, social impact travelers, as they are called, will assist with community needs such as education, environmental and economic development.
Starting $1,540 per person, one can enjoy a stateroom for two with a view of the ocean. Fees also include impact activities on-board and on-ground, and meals on the ship. When you’re not getting down and dirty volunteering, there will also be a chance for leisure time on board in the pool, working out at the gym or recuperating from a long day’s work on the ship’s very own spa.
