Many decorators believe that purchasing older furniture and making it an accent piece is a surefire way to bring style to a room—and this period table will definitely get attention. Attracting the eye of the original owner, Mrs. Nelson A. Rockefeller, the antique piece has seen the likes of many well-to-do owners, including Roger Vivier, the Rotschilds, Bernard Baruch Steinitz, and current owner Gordon Getty. Estimated between $400,000 and $600,000, the table is rectangular with a beaded frame and a beaded cusped apron. It has double-molded edges and is supported with rectangular sectioned legs featuring molding on all corners. Consisting of black lacquer and dusted in mother-of-pearl, the table will soon adorn a new home when it is auctioned by Sotheby’s New York on September 16.
