Like BMW, Bentley and Porsche, Aston Martin is the latest luxury automobile manufacturer to unveil a SUV concept.

The SUV-crossover, christened the DBX Concept, will embody a sports car shape, but is capable of accommodating four adults. It is also touted to be family-friendly and eco-friendly.

The DBX Concept is an electric-powered, all-wheel drive vehicle. It will feature an inboard-of-wheel, drive-by-wire electric steering and motors powered by lithium sulphur cells.

The British luxury carmaker incorporated modern technology such as toughened glass with an auto-dimming ‘smart glass’ inter-layer, a personalized driver and passenger head-up displays. Other additional engineering features include active LED exterior lights, carbon ceramic brakes with a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) and rear view cameras rather than conventional mirrors.

The concepts exterior is made of machined billet aluminium with visible milling lines intentional created to be seen as the car’s jewelry. The Black Pearl Chromium paint finishing has been specially designed to mirror the look of a genuine black pearl. It also includes a micro-fine layer of chrome to deliver a level of reflectivity that cannot be obtained through normal paint finishes, according to Aston Martin.

The inside of the vehicle will be crafted with velvet-like Nubuck leather.

In a press release, Aston Martin CEO Dr. Andy Palmer said, “The DBX Concept is a challenge to the existing status quo in the high luxury GT segment. It envisages a world, perhaps a world not too far away, when luxury GT travel is not only stylish and luxurious but also more practical, more family-friendly and more environmentally responsible.”

With the DBX Concept, the luxury carmaker hopes to appeal to a wider demographic such as women and individuals in countries like Russia, the Middle East and China where Aston Martin sports cars are not practical.

Palmer also said, “A concept car such as this should, in my view, challenge conventional thinking and explore the art of the possible. In the DBX Concept, I believe we have created a new type of luxury car that can not only broaden the appeal of Aston Martin to a whole new generation of customers, but sit with pride alongside the rest of our range.”
