Shake Shack UK And Action Against Hunger Launch Great British Shake Sale
Starting on 1 May, Shake Shack® UK will kick off the second annual long Great British Shake Sale, benefiting Action Against Hunger. The goal is to raise awareness and funds for Action Against Hunger, an international humanitarian organisation committed to ending child hunger.
Throughout the month of May, Shake Shack Covent Garden guests who donate £2 or more to Action Against Hunger will receive a voucher for a complimentary hand-spun shake – valued at £5 and redeemable on their next visit. Shake Shack is aiming to raise over £5,000 by 31 May 2015.
Action Against Hunger has been working with the food and drinks industry for more than 17 years. Their ‘Love Food Give Food’ campaign unites restaurants across the UK to take action against hunger. Everyone, from well-known chef ambassadors, restaurants and food producers, as well as those who simply love to cook, can take a small action to make a big difference. The £2 donations can help provide a two-day supply of therapeutic food used to nurse an acutely malnourished child back to health.
“We are absolutely delighted to be a part of the Great British Shake Sale again this year. It’s amazing to have this support from Shake Shack who believe in Action Against Hunger’s lifesaving work. We’re incredibly grateful for the amount raised in 2014 and we’re excited to see what this year brings to help the lives of malnourished children around the world”, says Emma Cullingford, head of Food Related Fundraising at Action Against Hunger.
Shake Shack UK is serving up four frozen custard flavours (think Red velvet, Cookies n’ chocolaty cream, Candied apple and Strawberry cheesecake), one for each week of May’s ‘Custard calendar’.
“Last year we launched the Great British Shake Sale to support an organisation and cause we’re very passionate about”, says Michael Kark, Vice president of Shake Shack Licensed Business. “This initiative allows us to connect with the community in a positive way about the serious issue of childhood hunger. This year, we hope to exceed our goal of £5,000 as we take another step toward a nation where no child is hungry.”
