Dubai’s Taksheel Presents ‘Sustaining Identity’ Exhibition
Recently opened at Taksheel, ‘Sustaining Identity’ presents work by 17 artists who live and work in the UAE and have been selected for their response to Taksheel’s open call to submit original works based on the show’s theme of what it is that sustains an artist’s practice.
Key works touch on the processes of collecting, archiving and documenting our changing environment and sustaining artistic practice within the context of the UAE—as all artists live and work in the emirates, which was part of the call for submission.
The multi-disciplinary exhibition presents a selection of works composed of found materials, solar prints using indigenous plants, installations, painting and photographic and sculptural works. Artists include Abir Mnasria & Zaina Khayyat, Afra AlDhaheri, Alia Dawood, Bob Dahm, Collective W.I.N., Colleen Quigley, Fatima AlBudoor, Hasnat Mehmood, Jeff Scofield, Jonny Farrow, Karee S Dahl, Maitha Demithan, Naz Sharokh, Saher Oliver Samman, Tom Baggaley and Zlatan Filipovic.
“This exhibition presents methods of sustainability which surround us daily as artists and how, through artistic practice we can further our explorations and experimentations,” said Tamsin Wildy, Tashkeel Studio Manager. “Tashkeel aims to continue the consciousness of sustainability and identify our existence as an integral part of a sustainable city.”
An exhibition that makes use of the UAE’s surroundings and artistic talent, ‘Sustaining Identity’ probes the make up of this cosmopolitan city.
