London: Alexander McQueen Launches Exclusive Silk Scarves
Foreshadowing the highly anticipated opening of the retrospective Alexander McQueen exhibition, Savage Beauty, in London on Saturday, the brand has unveiled a capsule collection of silk scarves to mark the occasion.
The range of five designs will pay homage to the iconic creations of the late Alexander McQueen, such as the armadillo shoes (popularized by Lady Gaga) and the Spray Painted Dress, which debuted in 1999. Each scarf will feature a nod to McQueen’s most memorable fashion moments, but only 100 scarves from each design will be printed, meaning hardcore fans of the brand will have to hurry to get their hands on these exclusive pieces. “Our silks remain the most popular and accessible product from the house, and we wanted everyone to be able to own a memento celebrating Savage Beauty, featuring imagery from Lee’s most memorable collections,” explained McQueen’s chief executive officer Jonathan Akeroyd.
The news comes after unprecedented demand for the exhibit, which is being held at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, forced curators to extend the run of the show in the capital, as well as releasing thousands of extra tickets. Last week also saw the exciting announcement that 13 new photographs, taken by French photographer Ann Ray during the backstage preparations of McQueen’s runway shows, would be joining the exhibit. The images, some of them never seen before, range from the early years of the designer’s life right through to weeks before his untimely suicide back in 2010.
The limited edition capsule collection of scarves will be available to buy online as well as from the Alexander McQueen flagship on London’s Bond Street.
