The Unexpected Sweet Sugarcane Shop
Tucked away on a street in Honolulu is a very unassuming boutique that is full of unexpected delights. Ms. Faith Scheiblich’s Sugarcane Shop was inspired by her fond memories of her grandmother. A Napa Valley transplant, Scheiblich found herself looking for a creative outlet and wanting to create a retail space that featured one of kind pieces in Honolulu.
Sugarcane is a charming consignment boutique that encourages recycling, restyled fashions, and home goods. Items are eclectic, ranging from handmade jewelry to retro china pieces, aprons, and artwork. Schelisch’s style could be best described as a fantastic blend of Hawaiiana meets hippy-beach meets antique nostalgia.
One of Scheiblich’s driving missions is to reduce waste on Earth. In fact when you enter her shop, you will see a large black board extolling the benefits salvaging gently used items. It reads the United States disposes of over 40 billion tons of worn clothing and textiles annually. EPA studies show 5% of U.S. landfill is composed of textiles. Recycling and reusing clothing keeps them out of the landfills.
