Jaquet Droz Returns To Its Roots
Celebrated Swiss watchmaker, Jaquet Droz, was born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland, but he knew that his hometown would be too small to allow for business expansion. So Droz decided to first go to Spain (1758-9), followed by Paris and finally London – where he set up a workshop in 1774.
Fast forward 240 years and the Maison Jaquet Droz returns to London to showcase the legendary Swiss watchmaker’s new collection of timepieces and to host special enamel painting demonstrations at the iconic Harrods department store.
To mark the occasion, a craftsman has painted an enamel dial – inspired by the store and its impressive frontage – for visitors to the dedicated demonstration area to enjoy.
The result is a colourful dial featuring London landmarks including a black taxi, a red ‘no 8’ bus (the figure eight has been the brand’s lucky number since 1784) and the world famous store itself.
The unique limited edition Harrods timepiece is sure to delight London and Jaquet Droz lovers in equal measure and is available in red or grey gold, with or without diamonds.
