Celebrate National Guacamole Day with the Best Margaritas in San Francisco

Margaritas, like these made with Suerte Tequila, are the perfect complement to a bowl of guacamole.

No one ever really needs an excuse to drink margaritas but if you do, just use National Guacamole Day, which we’re celebrating today, Sept. 16. Now that National Tequila Day (July 24) is a distant memory and because National Margarita Day (Feb. 22) is too far off, there’s no time like the present to sip a margarita. Whether blended or on the rocks, made with Don Julio or Suerte Tequila, nothing pairs better with guac than margs. And as we enjoy a little haute weather this week, a tasty, refreshing margarita is the perfect way to stay cool. If you’re looking for the best margaritas in San Francisco, here are some places worth checking out:

Rosa Mexicano – The Frozen Pomegranate Margaritas here are so addictive that regular clients jokingly call them “crack margaritas.” This is the restaurant’s signature cocktail since 1984 and is made with blanco tequila, triple sec, pomegranate and lime. Be careful. They go down way too easily.

Tacolicious – Thank goodness there aren’t nearly as many margaritas on the menu as there are tacos. Go for the Margarita Fresca, made with Azul silver, blood orange, cardamom, agave and lime. And with four locations (Marina, Mission, North Beach and Palo Alto), it seems like there’s always one a short Uber ride away.

Tres – Sure, you can take margarita making classes here but unless you can hand squeeze the fresh limes like they do, you’re better off ordering. Plus Tres’ selection of tequilas, from the highlands to the lowlands, is pretty darn impressive. We’re partial to to Sofia’s Margarita, made with Partida Añejo and agave nectar, but being the Don Julio lovers we are, also particularly enjoy the Conmemorativo Margarita.

Hecho – The name may have changed but, thankfully, not the margaritas at this sleek Castro newcomer formerly known as Bandidos. For those who like a little spice in their life, order the Pinche Picante Margarita, a delish concoction made with jalapeño-infused Pueblo Viejo blanco, aperol, fresh lime, agave and hellfire shrub.

Comal – For those in the East Bay, this Berkeley Arts District hotspot where new and exciting cocktails are introduced frequently is the place to enjoy a margarita made with Cimarrón Blanco tequila, orange-scented agave and lime. And the good thing is a BART station is nearby this Mexican restaurant.
