Pigalle Club Reopens In London Under A New Name
In its heyday, Piccadilly’s Pigalle club welcomed big names such as Frank Sinatra, Shirley Bassey and The Beatles but the 1940s style basement based club closed its doors in 2012.
Fast forward two years and the 400 capacity venue has reopened as Werewolf – the brainchild of brothers Anthony, Reg and Richard Traviss. Speaking to London’s Evening Standard, Richard Traviss, 44 – who previously owned Covent Garden celebrity haunt, Browns – revealed that the trio had “always known about the site and the potential it had. Most nightclubs at the moment are basement-based with low ceilings. This has a unique layout with a mezzanine floor, high ceilings and lots of original art deco architecture from mirrors to seating.”
Traviss, the former fiancee of presenter Denise Van Outen, continued: “There’s some real elements of the Rat Pack, Art Deco and the sleazy side of the 1980s. It’s going to be a unique clubbing experience, with some real highbrow stage performances.”
The decor at Werewolf – whose freehold is owned by the Crown Estate – encompasses elements of cult 80s films including Escape From New York, Mad Max and The Warriors. The design also incorporates lighting, sound and cinematography systems.
The new nightclub is located at 215-217 Piccadilly.
