Top Chef meets Project Runway Plus Philanthropy

Your Pick for May’s Philanthropy Event of the Month: Fashion Plates 2010, a gala fundraiser for  culinary school scholarships and Les Dames’ “Green Table” initiative with the McCormick Boys & Girls Club.

Hosted by the Chicago Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier International and the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs Culinary and Fashion Divisions, six local designers will be paired with six of the city’s most notable chefs to compete as a cultural design duo while the guests enjoy the action on the runway and at the table. The MC of the evening is Master Sommelier Alpana Singh of Lettuce Entertain You and host of WTTW’s Check Please!.

Featured Chefs include Randy Zweiban (Providence Restaurant), Shelley Young (the Chopping Block), Martial Noguier (Café des Architectes, Sofitel), Rick Gresh (David Burke’s Primehouse), Takashi Yagihashi (Takashi), Carrie Nahabedian  (NAHA) and Mixologist Adam Segar (Nacional 27).

Featured Designers include Richard Morse and Daryl Sneed of 5p1t, Abigail Glaum-Lathbury of Abigail Glaum-Lathbury, Nora Del Busto of the Nora Del Busto Collection, Michelle Tan of Michelle Tan Designs, Pierre Colorado of Blake Standard, and Tonya Gross of Tonya Gross Millinery.

Even more creative is the “Dessert Dash” where guests at each table will bid on everything from extravagant creations by local pastry chefs to a plate of Twinkies. Each guest enters the amount they are willing to contribute toward the purchase of a dessert and the bids are compiled by table to discern the winning culinary creation.
