Aspen Skiing

It’s safe to put away the bicycles and hiking shoes, ski season is officially here in Aspen/Snowmass. The Aspen Skiing Co., which owns all four area mountains–Aspen, Snowmass, Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands–announced an early opening weekend, with Aspen Mountain set for business this weekend, Nov. 16 and 17. Then, Aspen will reopen again for the season, along with Snowmass, on Nov. 23. Because of early season snow and cold temperatures, the season will start 12 days ahead of schedule; both mountains usually open Thanksgiving Day.

Aspen Mountain will open for top-to-bottom skiing on Copper Bowl and Spar Gulch this Saturday and Sunday. More than 200 acres will be open over 3,267 feet of vertical with an 18-inch base. Officials haven’t announced what exactly will be open on either mountain the following weekend. Buttermilk and Aspen Highlands are scheduled to open Dec. 14.

Ticket pricing and details will be announced later this week. Stay tuned at Aspen/Snowmass.
