Off the Field: Nic Roldan’s Aspen

Argentine polo player Nic Roldan is no stranger to Aspen, as he’s come to play in the world snow polo championships several years in a row. But, he got to escape the humid East Coast heat–where he calls New York and Florida home–to check out the town this summer with the introduction of the Aspen Valley Polo Club. Because the private club is still in its developing stages, he and other pros, like Nacho Figueras, played some exhibition games that were “more like glorified practice,” according to the 30-year old. But, as the sport climbs in popularity he expects Aspen to become a bigger name on the polo map. Until then, there are plenty of other things to keep frequent visitors, like Roldan, busy around town. “We did a lot of hiking, fishing, golfing. Every sort of activity that we could do, we did,” he says. “I love the geography, and the scenery is unbeatable. It’s a great place to go in the summer, because it’s not as hyped up as the Hamptons and there are more activities.”

“I enjoyed the Whitehouse Tavern. The kale salad there was unbelievable.”

“We mountain biked in Snowmass, which was very intense. You gotta be on point the whole way down. Another day, we attempted to ride road bikes up Independence Pass, but only go so far because of the USAA Pro Cycling Challenge being in town.”

“Whenever I come to town, we eat dinner at Cache Cache. This time, we played pool at Eric’s and of course went to the Caribou Club.”
