Hugh Jackman & Stephen Schwartz Collaborating on Houdini Musical

News | August 29, 2013

Get ready to be mystified! Acclaimed Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz is currently in the process of creating a new musical based on the legendary illusionist, Harry Houdini, for his good pal, Hugh Jackman.

“I’m specifically writing for Hugh in terms of what I think will sound good in his voice and what sorts of things will really help him to do the things that he does,” Schwartz told The Associated Press.

Entitled “Houdini,” the play is scheduled to reach Broadway during the 2013-2014 season. As of now, Schwartz has only completed one act, but says he’s been “writing away on it” along with a collaborator. “As soon as we finished it, of course, we immediately said, ‘We have to rewrite this entire thing,'” he explained. “But nevertheless we’re moving on to try to get a complete draft of the show.”
