Rare Ming Dynasty Bowl Expected to Fetch $10 Million at Auction
A rare blue and white bowl dating from the Chenghua era (1465-87) is expected to sell for $10 million at a Sotheby’s auction in October.
“It’s one of the most important pieces of Ming porcelain that we’ve had in the last 20 years,
Sotheby’s Deputy Chairman Asia, Nicholas Chow, told Reuters. “It’s a so-called ‘palace bowl,’ a bowl with the designs of flowers on the inside and the outside. It comes from the Chenghua period which is really the peak of material refinement in artistry at the kilns, at the imperial kilns in Jingdezhen.”
If the bowl does go for $10 million at the Oct. 8 auction, it would set a new record for a piece from that period.
